According to the AdMob’s Thursday-released “January 2010 Metrics Report,” nearly 50 percent of all iPhone users and 35 percent of iPod Touch owners buy at least one application each month; as against 24 percent and 21 percent users of Palm WebOS and Android respectively.
The results of the mobile-device consumers survey by AdMob – which serves ads to mobile phones and keeps track of all ad requests for the iPhone, Android, and WebOS smartphones – underscore the fact iPhone users are more likely to actually buy the apps, vis-à-vis their equally-active Android counterparts.
The AdMob survey results, based on the responses of 963 mobile-device consumers during a two-week period this month, do not include Research In Motion statistics as AdMob presently does not serve ads to BlackBerry smartphones.
The survey also found that, generally speaking, iPod Touch owners apparently download the maximum number of apps per month – averaging at around 12 apps. In comparison, the iPhone and Android users download 9 apps per month; while WebOS users download about 6 apps per month, largely due to a comparatively lower availability of apps.
Moreover, the iPod Touch owners are also the heaviest users of apps – they spend an average of 100 minutes per month using their apps; as against 87 minutes spent by WebOS users, 80 minutes by Android users, and 79 minutes by iPhone users.
