Nearly 50,000 jobs to be created by New Doha airport

New-Doha-International-AirportOn Wednesday, it was reported that after conclusion of all the three phases of the $14bn New Doha International Airport (NDIA); around 50,000 jobs will be formed.

A senior aviation official told that the airport's annual passenger handling capacity will reach 50 million and large numbers of jobs would be created when it is completely operational.

Abdul Aziz Al Nuaimi, chairman of the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCA) told, "Studies conducted by us reveal that when all the three phases of the NDIA are ready, 50,000 jobs will be created." He explained that by the end of
2011, the first and second phases of the NDIA will be opened and the airport's initial passenger handling capacity will be 25 million.

He explained that the airport would be enclosed by five artificial islands and will have as many as 175 check-in counters.

It would be the new base for the Qatar Airways fleet and will be one of the first airports to be designed with the new Airbus A380 in mind.

In order to become the Gulf's transit center with all three boosting airport capacity; Qatar is competing with Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Its flagship airline Qatar Airways; having a fleet of approximately 70 planes, has been growing quickly.

The carrier expects to add on 42 planes in four years and has given orders for more than 220 planes, worth $40bn.
