The Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) has released a new set of rules for street design in a bid to make roads safer for the pedestrians, transit users, cyclists and motorists. The new Urban Street Design Manual, under the Capital 2030 plan would be displayed at Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2010 which is going to start from April 18 to 21.
David Dudley, Regional Director of Jones Lang LaSalle said that the new urban policy is capable to address all transport problems which are coming in the way due to rising population and number of vehicles.
Dudley added, "Improving the urban environment of Abu Dhabi will continue to make it an attractive place to live and work."
Falah Mohammad Al Ahbabi, UPC's General Manager also hailed the new policy and said that the new Urban Street Design Manual aspires to establish Abu Dhabi as a model for global mobility.
The new policy will be firstly implemented by redesigning Khalifa Street in Abu Dhabi city centre for making it safer for transport. Moreover, all new streets in UAE would follow the updated practices from now onwards.
