Heart is Offered Protection by Happiness, Researchers Say

HappinessA team of researchers from the Columbia University have revealed that people who are happy and content face less risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, as compare to people who are less happy.

In the latest study of the relationship between happiness and heart diseases, researchers have reached the conclusion that if everyone ended up doing more of the things that make them happy, they could significantly cut their risk of heart attack and angina.

"We were excited to discover in a large population-based sample of adults that the tendency to express positive emotion predicted fewer heart attacks across a period of 10 years", said lead researcher Karina Davidson, Director of Columbia's Center for Behavioral Cardiovascular Health.

Researchers stressed that people who remain happy are most likely to have less in their lives, and whatever stress they do have, they end up handling it in a much better way.

Details of the study have been published in the European Heart Journal's February 18 issue.
