Bloomingdale's launches new store in Dubai

Bloomingdale's launches new store in DubaiBloomingdale's, one of the leading departments in New York, has made entry in Dubai by opening a store in the Middle East's biggest mall on Sunday. Macy's had already announced in September 2008 to open its store in the business and tourism hub of the Middle-East.

Inaugurating the three story shop in Dubai, Michael Gould, Bloomingdale's Chairman and Chief Executive added, "We have to create something that's different." He said that the firm would emerge as a leader in the field writing new stories of growth.

The venture has been started with the help of the United Arab Emirates' Al Tayer Group which has announced to invest 270 million dirhams. Shireen el-Khatib, Chief Executive of Al Tayer Insignia, the group's luxury retail division said, "We are bringing the best of America to Dubai with Bloomingdale's."

Dubai was adversely hit by global slowdown and the Dubai World's crisis in November as ripples of slowdown were witnessed across all economic segments. The Dubai's Mall opening has come at a time when retail sales have significantly declined due to slump in the real estate segment.
