A high level delegation from UAE recently held a meeting with UN committee apprising the body regarding progress made by the country in securing better place for women in the society, traditionally known for having discriminatory view for women.
The UAE delegation headed by Her Excellency Reem Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State presented its initial report on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) to the UN committee in the presence of around 25 representatives of the Government in Geneva Switzerland. She apprised the committee about the progress made by UAE in women's empowerment in the society and steps taken for protecting their rights.
It is desired under the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women for the states to periodically report UN over the success made on lifting the status of women in the respective state.
Al Hashemy further told, "The United Arab Emirates society is basically a conservative society which strongly rejects trafficking and exploitation of persons, especially women and children, and prohibits all acts which affect women, as the religious and cultural beliefs prevailing in the UAE society deplores such practices."
