Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC), the oldest airline company operating in the Gulf, is expected to go private soon as the Kuwait government has reportedly expedited its plans in this direction. The economic affairs committee has already recommended the privatization of the airline besides giving its principal nod to the cabinet draft on the rules and executive measures in Law 6/2008.
Government also reviewed the study conducted by specialized international consultancy agencies before moving toward the privatization of the airline.
Dr. Bader Mohammad Al Sa'ad, Managing Director of the Public Investment Authority (PIA) said that the recent sessions by the government discussed the move to turn KAC in to a shareholding company bringing necessary changes in laws.
It should be recalled that officials of the carrier have been asking for privatization of the airline to revive the long pending enhancement program. A large number of MPs also backed the idea of turning the airline in to corporation and reducing the shareholding of the government.
Kuwait Airways, having presence in 28 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and North America, is headquartered at Kuwait International Airport.
