The Sakhir airbase where the inaugural function of Bahrain International Air Show was held is ready for a new Formula One role for turning Bahrain as a leading player in the aviation sector.

Bahrain Airport Services Chief Executive Officer Phil Bowell and Mumtalakat Chairman Talal Alzain expressed that the airbase can prove very useful for holding events such as the Bahrain Grand Prix. It can help to reduce burden on already busy Bahrain International Airport by transferring commercial flights to Sakhir providing extra parking space for aircrafts.

Mr. Boswell added, "A lot of the facilities we've brought in to the Sakhir site on a temporary basis for the air show have worked, so if we can do it for the air show then there's no reason we can't do it for other events."

It should be recalled that a large number of spectators from aviation industry turned up at the air base for joining the Bahrain International Airshow which would last till January 23. The air-show is organized by Civil Aviation Affairs for the Kingdom of Bahrain under the patronage of Royal.
