Oman's Ministry of Information on Monday said that the process of establishing a "World-class" bunker operation has been started by signing a deal with some firms specialized in this area. The Ministry is optimistic of the license to be effective for the supplying of different grades of marine fuel at the port by the first fortnight of June.
The parties involved in operations include Shell Oman Marketing/Shell Marine Products and a joint venture between the Oman Oil Marketing Company (Oman Oil) and Matrix Marine Holding GmbH.
Omar Ahmed Qatan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Omanoil has expressed his pleasure to be a part of the agreement aimed to provide bunkering services at the Port. He added, "We are collaborating with Matrix Marine Holding GmbH, who will bring in their knowledge, experience and expertise in establishing the bunkering services."
Mr. Qatan hoped that the move will prove a stepping stone for further development of the port and increased vessel traffic to Sohar will ensure its additional revenue.
In a statement on Oman's bourse website, Shell Oman Marketing said, "Providing bunkering services in Sohar Port will create competitive advantages for Shell Oman and it will enable it to extend its products and services to the local and international marine customers."
