A group of Yemeni clerics have come with a call against foreign occupation urging people of the country to die for the dignity of Islam. They announced to oppose any military agreement between Yemen and any foreign party which is not in line with Islamic Sharia.
Around 150 clerics, in a statement, said, "If any party insists on aggression, or invades the country, then according to Islam, jihad becomes obligatory.” They also announced to oppose any move by government for allowing foreign parties to open their military bases in Yemen.
The development came just after government announced to tackle Al Qaida and other terrorists outfits heavy handedly. It has also announced stern action against people who supports the global terrorist group. The security forces are said to be preparing for a wide campaign against Al Qaida elements.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the US Senate Armed Services Committee, Carl Levin cautioned US administration over rising Al Qaida activities in Yaman and advised government to target Al Qaida terrorists with drones, air strikes or covert operations.
Meanwhile, Nicole Stracke, Security and Terrorism Researcher at the Gulf Research Centre in Dubai added, "The (Yaman) population is already very weary and sensitive to any perceived US involvement in Yemen."
