In spite of having some of the most luxurious hotels in the world, the tag of Most Popular Hotel in Dubai went to the four-star Al Manzil Hotel.

It was named so by TripAdvisor's Popularity Index that measures overall traveler contentment. The Index put the lesser-known property in Downtown Burj Khalifa ahead of 370 other hotels across the emirate.

The hotel was also voted as the Top Business Hotel in Dubai last year, on the website's Business Popularity Index.

A statement released on Sunday said that the index is based on customer ratings, reviews and other sources.

Richard Weilers, Managing Director Southern Sun Middle East said, "While Southern Sun has garnered numerous industry accolades in the past few years, receiving this vote of confidence from our guests is a strong incentive to our staff to keep up the good work and maintain the reputation we have been building since we entered the market in 2007."

Al Manzil Hotel is one of two 4-star hotels operated by the hospitality group, Southern Sun, which manages properties across Africa.
