It has appeared that a new federal law that bans the use of tobacco and its products in the UAE has been issued by the UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed al-Nahyan.
The law states that until the tobacco and its by-products do not have clear word and image warnings on the box, they can't be imported in the country. Part from this the law also prohibits advertising, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products.
The law also says that no one can smoke on public transport and public closed places. It also bans the use of tobacco products while driving a vehicle if a child of less than 12 years is present.
As per the law, cafes or outlets serving any type of tobacco products inside residential buildings or near them won't be given licenses. The public can't smoke in places or houses of worship, educational, health and sports facilities.
Moreover, under the law, selling of tobacco products to minors (less than 18) would be a punishable offense. Those caught doing this can be fined up to AED1 million along with a jail term of two years.
