Parents Lash Out over Secretive Implanting Of Contraceptive Devices

ContraceptiveIn a shocking revelation, it has been found that teenagers are being made part of a secretive scheme which allowed them to have a device inserted under their skin. The device, as long as 4cm, was told to reduce underage pregnancies. This news has come as a shocker not just for the families of the girls but to the society as a whole. It is worth asking how come neither the young girls not their families were informed about this.

There is rising outrage among the families as parents were not made aware of their young daughters made part of any such scheme. It is shocking for parents to comprehend that while they are under the impression that their daughters are being given education in schools, such programmes are being done behind the walls of the school.

“The last thing health authorities should be doing is fuelling the flames of promiscuity”, said Norman Wells, of the Family Education Trust, who lashed out at the NHS experts in Southampton.

It is outrageous that school authorities can make teenagers mere gunny pigs to hand over to some health experts to be made part of such schemes. This news has certainly raised question on the moral character of the authorities.

There is need for authorities to come forward to justify their stand, which they took without notifying the parents. “We are committed to ensuring local young people are able to access clinically appropriate sexual health support”, said a spokeswoman for Solent NHS Trust and NHS Southampton, who has confirmed that letters were sent to parents in 2009.

Though teenage pregnancies in Southampton have gone down 22%, there is need for a transparent system to be developed between parents and health experts. Instead of taking the parents into confidence, the authorities made the girls as young as 13 part of a drive kicked in Southampton to fight against the scar of Britain's high rate of teenage pregnancies.
