There are always awareness drives for making women alert about the risk of breast cancer. The truth is that men can have breast cancer too these days. Male breast cancer is a serious issue, which is being taken really lightly rather being ignored. There is need for more awareness to be spread about the same so that men too get acquainted with the risk of the disease and become preventive about it.

The truth is that most men ignore it and don't speak about it till they have reached the crucial stage of the disease and it is difficult to seek help then. These cases of breast cancer in men are mostly due to hormonal reasons.

"The ratio of male cases to female is 100:1 ie. For every 100 female breast cancer cases, the number of men affected is just 1. The number may not yet be big to cause panic, but it sure is significant", revealed Dr. Vijay Anand P Reddy, Director, from Apollo Cancer Hospitals.

It is essential for men to become aware and knowledgeable about these risks as well, and get help as soon as they discover something is wrong with them. Avoiding or hiding an illness will only promote and worsen the situation. It is essential that the entire world join hands for more rigorous efforts to be made for the prevention and cure of breast cancer in men. There is need for awareness camps to be launched specially for the men, so that they can discuss their problems freely, and given knowledge about the subject as well.

Even the slightest nodules and lumps must be taken into account and GPs must be consulted before it is too late.
