Post-Pregnancy Phase Is Extended Pain for Women

PregnancyWhile days over the period of pregnancy are struggling for women, even days post - pregnancy are not that relaxing any more. There are many women who encounter range of health issues while they reach the stage. Even the story is nothing new of a 29-year-old mother who suffered from osteoporosis after pregnancy.

She overlooked the pain she used to experience while she lifts her baby, but little was known that Georgina Howard was battling with osteoporosis. The agonizing pain she used to feel was due to a fractured spine, and had nothing to do with post-pregnancy pain.

She didn’t even had painkillers else it could have passed on to her baby while breastfeeding. However, she finally gave up, and saw her GP. Even her GP could not track down what the lady was suffering from in the first diagnosis. This is somewhat obvious, as there are many women who have reported back pain during and after birth.

‘It’s a rare form of osteoporosis — and because it is a rare condition, cases may be missed or misdiagnosed”, said Dr. John Stevenson, consultant metabolic physician at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London. It actually took the woman two months to before she was told what she was actually suffering from.

Nonetheless, the issue remains the same. It’s all about diagnosing the disease at right time, instead of assuming it as something normal. The disease puts one bone density under deterioration, thereby making them more susceptible to weak body. The pain it causes is somewhat unbearable and this is what is told to make things a lot difficult for one to manage.

It is nothing less than a challenge for the medical community to find why not all women after giving birth face such issues. There is still lot to be done to make the diagnosis of pregnancy-related osteoporosis more timely and effective for women.
