Spoon feeding has forever been considered as an important aspect of nurturing and an expression of motherly affection, but have you ever wondered it can actually result in making your baby fat and fatter? Making an immensely interesting and significant disclosure, a recently conducted study, which was carried out by researchers from the Nottingham University, has claimed that babies who are majorly weaned on pureed foodstuff have a great inclination towards ending up fatter as compared to kids who are initially fed on finger food.
The study, which has been made available in the recent edition of the journal BMJ Open, has concluded that spoon feeding babies with pulped up veggies and fruits seems to impart them a sweeter tooth, which further inspires fatness that can easily spike up over a period of time to become the dreadful condition termed obesity.
During the course of study, the researchers analyzed eating habits of more than 155 children, and found that babies who are taught to feed themselves solid food generally have a tendency of favoring more of satiating carbohydrates such as toast.
This timely learning of self-control in terms of what to eat makes them healthy, strong and slim.
While expressing her opinion regarding the finding of the study, along with briefing the consequences it may have in the time to follow, the lead author of the study, Dr. Ellen Townsend, said: “It could be an age of introduction effect that we are seeing. Carbohydrates are ideal finger foods. But self-control of feeding may also be a factor. You are handing over control and letting the baby decide how much they want to eat”.
During the study, the researchers observed that spoon-fed infants are more likely to be obese, although, in general, the majority of kids analyzed during the course of the study were having a healthy body weight.
