Oral Cancer Virus More Prevalent in Men than Women, Reveals Study

Oral-Cancer-VirusAs per recent reports, it has been claimed that Men are far more expected to have the potentially terminal Sexually Transmitted Human Papillomavirus (HPV) inside their mouth as compared to women.

In this regard, a study was recently carried out by experts from the Ohio State University, the US National Cancer Institute (NCI) and Information Management Services (IMS), an American firm.

The study was focused on highlighting the occurrence, symptoms and consequences of HPV, an extremely dangerous mouth cancer as well as various other cancers. Researchers further claimed that HPV is more widespread among individuals engaged in all sorts of sexual activities, counting anal, oral and vaginal. The researchers have recommended that HPV medication for men must be aimed at finding out whether or not it could prove effective in tightening the screws on the rapidly increasing severity of oral HPV and, if possible, oral cancer as well.

During the course of last three decades, the frequency of mouth cancer has spiked up by around 20%. Use of tobacco and heavy, prolonged drinking are the most prevalent risk aspects, though the existence of oral HPV is also an evident risk factor resulting in the said ailment.

The research, which found that in excess of 7% of people in the United States (between 14 and 69 years of age) are carrying the said virus, was monetarily backed by Ohio State University, John and Nina Cassils, the US National Cancer Institute and Merck, the drugmaker specializing in the manufacturing of the cervical cancer jab known as “Gardasil”. Experts have revealed that over a certain period of time, HPV results in increasing the odds of a person falling prey to the life-threatening cervical cancer.

The findings of the recent research have proffered estimations that men are more likely to fall prey to such sexual infections that can result in causing oral HPV as compared to women in the United States.
