Washington may soon put ban on the use of indoor tan beds by minors (under the age of 18 years).
A report published by The Seattle Times says a state Senate panel has already approved a measure that would prohibit minors from using indoor tan beds, though the Bill 6249 still waits for a vote from the full Senate.
Currently, there is no age limit on the use of indoor tanning beds. However, some salons ask for parental consent before allowing minors to use indoor tanning beds.
Vice President Dr. Suzanne Connolly, of the American Academy of Dermatology, said, "Tan represents damage. That is a fact."
California was the first state to ban the use of tanning beds for all minors. It passed a similar bill around four months back.
Many have long been demanding ban on tanning beds for minors because of concerns over potential health hazards like melanoma- a deadly sort skin cancer. Melanoma is the most common type of cancer among white women in the age group of 15-29 years.
