It has been recently revealed in a report that the nurse, Rebecca Leighton, who had been under scrutiny for the saline contaminated deaths in Stockport, has been denied her appeal that was made against her dismissal from the hospital.
It was last year that the case of deaths due to contamination in saline drips appeared at the Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport. It was suspected that Rebecca Leighton was involved in it. It was later found through investigation that she hadn’t done anything wrong in the case of the deaths, but had indulged in theft and this is why she was fired from her job.
Ms. Leighton is 28 years old, and she was told that she wouldn’t be allowed to return for her job, after the hearing yesterday.
She was in jail for a period of 6 weeks, and was charged of criminal charges for having caused life threatening conditions for the patients in the hospitals. However after the thorough investigation, it was determined that she wasn’t at fault, but it was also found that she had been indulging in stealing activities. There wasn’t enough evidence to prove her crime and this is the reason she had to be released eventually.
There was a real ruckus created in the hospital after vulnerable patients were being preyed upon, by some medical errors, or some person out there to kill them, while they were given their saline drips. Their saline was contaminated with insulin and this was the cause of death of the people. There is need for a thorough analysis to be done, and need or better security conditions in the hospital so that something like this doesn’t happen again.
