The death of a woman after giving birth at home has stirred debate over the safety of giving birth at home. The deceased mother has been identified as Caroline Lovell who was just 326 when she succumbed to death.
Before dying she did embrace her daughter. She gave birth to the beautiful little girl on Monday. As her health was deteriorating, she was required to be admitted to the hospital. While taking her to hospital, she had a cardiac arrest and failed to survive.
An online tribute was paid to the mother who has left behind two children to be carried after by her husband. The President of the Australian Medical Association, Australian Medical Association said that death rate of the home birth are significantly higher.
He informed that in certain cases, it is necessary to make the obstetric, anaesthetic and paediatric care available to the mother. Failing to do so may lead to the death of the mother. Every year, a large number of women succumb to death because of the unsafe home births.
Obstetrician Gino Pecoraro said, "The beautiful event that having a baby can be can also turn, within the blink of an eye, into a potentially life-threatening situation for both mother and child. If this occurs in a hospital, potentially lifesaving facilities, knowledge and treatment are just down the corridor".
The women are being encouraged to consult their doctors before planning for home births. Pros and cons of the home births should be kept in mind by the expecting mums while deciding over the place where they wish to give birth. It has been informed that only 20% of the women who plan to give birth at home are transferred to the hospitals.
