As per reports, it has got revealed that the Flinders University in South Australia has started preparing for their third National Aged Care Workforce Census and Survey. They have started informing every community and residential aged care services about the survey and have asked for support.
Dr. Debra King, who is a senior research fellow at the National Institute for Labour Studies (NILS), told that the census and survey is an important contribution from their side to the government. The survey and census is able to reflect gaps in the society and also tells about a complete picture of the aged care workforce.
It is an exclusive report, which is nowhere available in the country. King told that their last census ands survey report was extensively used for many projects in the country and acted as a source for the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Many of the reforms that where planned in the Productivity Commission’s aged care reform were being done due to the report.
King said, “The Department of Health and Ageing also use it extensively to think about workforce issues like where the gaps are, what the problems are and the change-over time between different skill sets and competencies”.
In addition to the existing rules, King said that they have introduced a novel service for first timers and also for those who are from non-English background. He continued by saying that they have launched an interpretative service which would allow non-English background workers to contribute their services.
The Aged Care Minister, Mark Butler, also asked people to contribute in the survey and census. He termed it to be an important contribution which is of great use for aged care services. Butler told that the report would tell them about nooks where they could make an improvement.
