Democracy Might Be Harmed By Cave-In

Democracy Might Be Harmed By Cave-InIt has been recently revealed that the new move by the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, is not a wise decision. This was said in context to the new rules that have been implied against the gambling industry lately. There have been rules suggested for reducing the daily limits of the poker machines. The government is of the view that this would be a good way to curb people’s gambling habits and stabilize the staggering economic condition.

It was revealed according to a report by the Productivity Commission that about 605 of the revenue collected by gambling firms comes from those people who are either addicted to it or are at a risk of becoming chronic gamblers. There is need for reducing this type of psyche for the game as the people only end up losing lots of money in the ordeal.

It was said by Dr. Peter Adams from the University of Auckland that this might mean a thorough block on democracy. He was of the view that if the revenues by gambling are taken into such considerations in big institutions, it might soon tend to take toll on the democratic functioning of the country.

There is need for understanding that this is personal choices made by people to spend their cash, and has got nothing to do with channelizing an entire community in a particular direction. There is need for a more broad line of thinking for the same, so that people don’t tend to get restrictive in their approach towards life in the time to come.

There needs to be a healthy balance struck by the government and the gambling firms, so that both can function in peaceful correlation, without coming in the way of each other.
