A&E Wards in Morecambe Bay Hospitals Need Improvement

A&E Wards in Morecambe Bay Hospitals Need ImprovementReports have revealed that accident and emergency services provided by university hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust are subpar. Concerns have been shown by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) after inspection of the A&E services.

The CQC has revealed that it would be examining the emergency care services that are being provided by the Trust as it was previously found through an investigation that maternity services provided by it are not up to the mark.

Also, since the maternity services by the hospitals have been checked and appropriate steps are already being taken by the trust, the investigation this time would not include these, found the report.

It has been remarked by the CQC's North West regional lead, Debbie Westhead that the investigation would help them to scrutinize the care being provided in the emergency wards in a thorough way. Since the CQC is doubtful of the quality care being provided there and ability to mitigate risk, it would help it in improving the same.

In fact, it was stated by the nurses, other medical staff and unions that they are not able to provide the services properly and have lost confidence. The trust staff said that it is burdened with over-work and morale has gone all-time low.

Thus, CQC has decided to investigate the emergency wards so as to take proper steps to provide better services. It is believed by the CQC that the investigation would surely reassure people that their problems are being looked after by the trust and appropriate action too, would be taken. "I'd like to stress that local people should continue to use accident and emergency services if they need to. If we felt there were immediate threats to the safety of patients, we would take immediate action", added Debbie Westhead.
