Vitamin D Apparently Not Working

Vitamin D Apparently Not WorkingIt has been recently revealed in a report that vitamin D which was previously thought of value in the treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) exacerbations, is actually of no use. This has been revealed according to a small scale trial. This s the first time there has been a trial conducted to find the worth of the vitamin in COPD.

The study however doesn't undermine the other benefits of the vitamins, for the patients suffering from moderated severe cases of COPD. "Particularly for COPD, the vitamin D pathway is an attractive target for intervention studies because vitamin D deficiency may enhance chronic airway and systemic inflammation, reduce bacterial clearance, and increase the risk for infectious exacerbations at the same time", revealed An Lehouk, of the Department of Medical Sciences at the University hospital in Leuven in Belgium.

There was no significant improvement found in the condition, taking in consideration the first time the exacerbation occurs, besides the times that follow.

Vitamin D is an essential supplement that provides general wellness, but it doesn't seem to have any extraordinary effect on the health of the patients suffering from this form of COPD disease. The authors are further of the view that it may be further difficult to infer a benefit from the vitamin, because the patients here were getting a lot of inhalation therapy.

It's just a matter of time to find another effective mode of treatment or supplement that could be effective in helping the situation. As for vitamin D, it is useful for the other stages and forms of the disease and the importance of the same isn't being undermined in any way. This study might be useful for further research and development, which is needed to reach a final verdict.
