Job Cuts Expected Despite GM Payment

Job Cuts Expected Despite GM PaymentIn what may well turn out to be quite a harsh blow for a large number of employees working at the Holden's Elizabeth plant, it has been revealed recently by Jay Weatherill, the Premier of South Australia, that there are fairly high chances of a large number of job cuts at Holden's Elizabeth plant.

The statement has indeed resulted in spreading shock waves all over the region as the majority of people were expecting no further job cuts since a multi-million dollar amount was given to the parent company "General Motors".

Also, Mr. Weatherill had recently tripped to the US with the intent of meeting various GM executives at the Detroit-based headquarter of the auto giant.

During the course of his visit to the US, Mr. Weatherill proclaimed that the State and Federal Governments will be providing a "substantial amount" to the General Motors for maintaining its plants in Australia. Though he said nothing regarding the amount that will be given to the GM, one of the workforce analysts has expressed his speculations that a sum of around $200 million is must for satisfying the company.

After touching ground back in Adelaide on Tuesday, the Premier accepted that the local car agency is on the verge of being downsized despite paying a hefty amount to the company.

While expressing his concerns regarding the large number of job cuts in near future, Mr. Weatherill claimed: "I think that's likely but what we want to do is minimize the reduction in the number of jobs in South Australia and to create a secure platform from which we can grow".

The Government is certainly doing all what it could so as to make sure the car industry goes the distance securely with no to minimum job cuts at the Elizabeth car assembly plant which employs in excess of 2500 individuals.
