A survey conducted by the European Food Information Council (EUFIC) has pointed out that people are not consuming adequate amount of fruits and vegetables. From time to time people are mad aware of the benefits of consuming rich nutritional food but many fail to include them in their diet.
In the survey it has been highlighted that 13.6oz of vegetable and fruits is consumed by the population of the European countries on daily basis. However, the population of the US consumes only 9.1oz. It has further been pointed out that only 14 countries are meeting the target of consuming 14.1oz of fruit and vegetable daily. These countries include Austria, Germany, Italy and Poland.
The EUFIC has pressed over the benefits of consuming fruits and vegetable. In previous studies, it had been highlighted that by including fruits and vegetable in meals, life threatening diseases like cancers and heart attack could be prevented.
Moreover, healthy eating prevents a person from gaining excess weight. Obesity has been blamed for causing life threatening diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and stroke. These days, sedentary life style is taking its toll over the life of people. Therefore, it is necessary to include fruits and vegetables as they are rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals which are necessary for the overall development of people.
During the survey, it was found that Finland, the Czech Republic, Sweden and Iceland are among those countries which are not consuming fruits and vegetables in adequate quantity. However, if the data is compared with the data of 1970 then one will observe that the consumption of fruits and vegetables has increased. Still, people are required to make more changes in their lifestyle so that they could be prevented from life threatening diseases.
