The Seattle Aquarium yesterday confirmed the birth of a new sea otter pup, who was born to the mother otter Aniak, who herself was born at Seattle Aquarium in the year of 2002.
The yet-to-be named young otter took birth Saturday just before 5 a. m. at the Seattle Aquarium’s facility on Pier 59 in Seattle.
Traci Belting curator of birds and mammals said they were very excited at the arrival of the new pup.
Speaking on the topic, the curator said, “We are so excited to welcome this new creature into the Aquarium family. We’ll be observing the mother and pup round the clock to evaluate the health of each in the days ahead.”
The sex of the pup is yet to be determined. A baby sea otter remains extremely close to its mother in the day after its birth, making it difficult for observers to determine if it is a male or a female.
The new pup is the tenth born at the Seattle Aquarium.
Adda, the young pup’s father, has temporarily been move to the Oregon Zoo in Portland to Aniak to spend more time with her newly born baby.
