Yesterday, Bionomics broke the announcement of striking a deal with the US Drug Company Ironwood for developing and commercializing anti-anxiety drug BNC210. The deal would increase the revenue of the firm as it will be receiving a payment of US$3 million and US$13 million in the coming two years.
It has been informed that the revenue thus raised would be directed towards the production of several other drugs. The Chief Executive of the Bionomics, Deborah Rathjen said, "Partnering BNC210 has been a major objective for Bionomics, and this collaboration with Ironwood continues Bionomics' strategy to form partnerships to develop and commercialize its proprietary drug candidates”.
Previous preclinical studies have highlighted that the drug, BNC210, is effective in treating anxiety. However, it also has mild side effects. It has been pointed out by Deborah Rathjen that the deal is a strategy to get funding to improve BNC210.
The firm is confident that Ironwood would provide with adequate attention needed to develop better and effective form of BNC210. Treating anxiety disorder is quite difficult as till now there isn’t any drug available in the market. It is hoped that with the introduction of BNC210, anxiety could be dealt with.
The deal would prove helpful for the Bionomics to develop and commercialize its drug worldwide. Previous studies conducted over the drug have showed that the consumption of drug doesn’t cause drowsiness among the patients.
It is believed that the deal would pave the way for further researchers to gauge or to find a cure for the anxiety disorder which is currently difficult to be cured clinically. It is hoped that patients suffering with anxiety disorder would soon be blessed with anti-anxiety treatment. However, it is not certain as to how much time it will take to make the drug available in the market.
