Summmernats Is Back After 20 Years

Summmernats Is Back After 20 YearsSummmernats (Summer Nationals) is the best known car festival that takes place in Canberra, Australia. It usually takes place in the start of every year and is a big crowd puller for the country. This mindboggling event is back after 20 years, which would kick start from the 5th of January, 2012 at Northbourne Avenue, Canberra.

The ACT government banned the event in 1990s. But this year the government found the condition to be good enough to allow the fest to be reorganized with the name of Citycruise. About 200 cars would be taking part in this extravaganza.

This event is held over a four-day period in which a lot of events take place such as parade of cars around the track, a Miss Summmernats competition, a prize distribution function and fireworks at night. The parade of cars would be escorted by dozens of police.

It has been 18 years since the event took place due to street riots that led police to arrest hundreds of people involved in it. The ACT government said that their main aim is to attract a lot of families in this festival and this is the reason that they have organized this fest in mid-noon.

Event owner Andy Lopez said, "We've put it on at a time of day which we feel will encourage families and workers from the ACT to just get out and have a look”.

Last riots have raised concerns among the people that the incident does not get repeated. Many families have asked the event organizers to tell them about the security arrangements they have made for them.

Lopez revealed that he is not the first owner of the event and bought the same in 2009. He bought it as he does not want the event should be remembered with some harsh feelings. He is hoping to wash away all the negativities that were attached to it due to earlier instance.
