First Woman Master to Take Over at Holles St

First Woman Master to Take Over at Holles StEurope's busiest maternity hospital got its new master yesterday, and the post has been grabbed by a woman for the first time ever in the history of the hospital.

The maternity hospital of Ireland got Dr. Rhona Mahony as its new head. From now onwards, she will be managing all the scarce resources to efficiently run the maternity hospital.

Dr. Mahony took up the post yesterday as master in the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, Dublin. The new master is all set to tackle the resource-shortage problems, and is also aiming to develop better services at the hospital during the next seven years of her tenure.

Earlier, the hospital had Dr. Michael Robson as its master but, his term expired on December 31. His position has been replaced by Dr. Mahony, who was elected by the hospital's governors during the procedure of selecting a new candidate to serve the post.

Dr. Mahony, 41, is a resident of Dublin. She is a consultant obstetrician, gynecologist and also specializes in foetal and maternal medicine.

The mother-of-four followed the tradition of knocking the front door of the 118-year-old hospital yesterday. After the tradition, she announced in her speech about her plans and aims to accomplish during her seven-year tenure, including developing the hospital's community midwifery service, gynecological department and promoting research as well.

She further boldly acknowledged that the mentioned services would not get affected from any sort of funding issues. "We have to look all the time at how we can be more efficient and how we can deliver the best service possible. This is a very, very old building, it is not custom-built for 2012", she said.
