SMRT board of directors says sorry Board of directors at Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) has issued a statement apologizing for the recent massive train breakdowns that left thousands of passengers stranded, and assuring that they would leave no stone unturned to gain back commuters' confidence.

Koh Yong Guan, chairman of the board of directors, said that they took the disruptions very seriously and was launching an internal probe to determine the causes.

The team of experts to probe the disruptions will be headed by independent board director Ong Ye Kung.

Speaking on his new role, Mr. Ong said, "We will look at a set of recommendations to correct any faults if there are, and restore public confidence."

Separately, land transport regulator LTA announced that it too had launched investigations into train breakdowns.

SMRT's train service troubled thousands of commuters on Thursday and Saturday when trains broke down for five hours and seven hours respectively.

Meanwhile, the LTA also announced that 39 bus services had been enhanced between October and December by making improvements like deploying higher-capacity buses, increasing frequency and introducing more bus trips to match demand.
