Cochlear Australia, the world leader in advanced hearing loss solutions, has got to know the exact reason behind the failure of its hearing implant, Nucleus 5. After knowing the reason, they sent mails to its clinics to inform them about the same.
They said minute cracks developed at the time of its manufacturing and this led the moisture into the device and destroyed the implant. In total about 1.9% implants have reported to be failed, but the good news is that with advancement in time there is decline in failure reports.
The company has promised that they would soon return in the market with their Nucleus 5. For that they need to conduct rigorous clinical testing so they get green signal from the regulatory authorities. Chief Executive Chris Roberts said when they got to know about implant failure then they voluntarily called back all the devices.
Roberts said, "This understanding of the root cause now forms the basis of the plan for the return of the Nucleus CI500 series implant to market”
This voluntary call back has not affected their market share, said Roberts. They have touched two months highest score this time at $60.23. He further affirmed that those who returned their products were given other implant component from the previous Freedom range.
Nucleus 5 converted sounds to electrical energy which then was forwarded to hearing nerves. But micro cracks in the device allowed the seeping of moisture which damaged it completely. Cochlear was formed some thirty decades back in the union of the Australian government.
The government supported it as the company was developing a bionic ear which was being developed by Melbourne University professor. Since then there is no looking back for the company and has now become the world leader in implant segment.
