Partner Is Responsible For Making You Binge In Alcohol, Says Study

AlcoholIt is more easy to get into drinking when your partner is ready to give you company. Recent study at Dalhousie University has concluded that one is more likely to get into drinking if his partner is into it without any gender Bias.

Researcher Aislin Mushquash said it was a preconceived notion that males have great influence on women when it comes to drinking. But their research has proved such notions wrong. They found men and women having equal impact on each other when it comes to drinking.

In order to prove above point, they enrolled 208 people who were in their 20s and were mixed bunch of non-married and homo sexual couples. There was at least one person in the couple who was university student. It was made assure that all were dating for more than one year.

After observing them for 28 days, it was being concluded that one partner was responsible for other partner’s binge drinking. Mushquash said it happens as they get freedom to drink without hesitation as well as they get each other’s company to do so.

Earlier, it was expected that such trend is only found in elderly couples, but it has been found that this trend is quite common among youth as well.

Simon Sherry, who is an Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University, was of the view, “We’re not so naive as researchers to think students are going to walk away from binge drinking. But our study shows there’s a large majority of students who form romantic partnerships where alcohol is a regularly occurring theme”.

Mushquash said binge drinking is not good habit and it is expected in a relationship that one should control other partner from binging in alcohol rather than developing a habit for it.
