Timely Treatment Not Being Provided To Patients

ambulanceIt has been reported by the BBC that a majority of patients arriving at London hospitals by ambulance are either left in corridors or are left in the vehicles only. The BBC collected the data from the department of Freedom of Information.

As per the set rules and regulations, a hospital is required to address to patient’ needs within 15 minutes of his or her arrival in the hospital. But a majority of the hospitals are not meeting the guidelines.

However, acute serious patients are being treated timely. But in some hospitals the scenarios is quite worse. In an incident, one of the accident and emergency department was required to shut down because of mysteries reasons and the patients coming there were directed to different hospital.

It has been reported that in the previous month about 45% of the hospitals failed to provide treatment to patients within 15 minutes of their arrival. Commenting upon the scenario, Lizzy Bovill, London's ambulance service's Deputy Director of strategic development, said that patients are being made to wait in the hospital unnecessarily. Lizzy Bovill was reported of saying, “Hundreds of hours are lost every week because of delays and it's been getting gradually worse over the last few months”.

It is believed that the staffs of the hospitals are under acute stress as they are being forced to deliver effective work in less time. Although emergency patients are provide with timely care, patients seeking elective surgery are being made to wait longer.

However, on other side of the picture, the process of discharging patients from the hospital is taking its toll. It has been informed that the NHS staff is quite busy in the winter season as cases related to flu are coming in huge number. All this is leading to delay not only in providing treatment but also in discharging patients from the hospital.
