National Bank of Abu Dhabi starts operations in Jordan

NBADNational Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) inaugurated its operations in Jordan on Tuesday and became the 25th financial institution having their operations in the country. By 2014, NBAD shall have 6 branches operating in the country.

Michael Tomalin, Chief Executive NBAD, said, "The bank will work to expand its network in Jordan and shall be a significant contributor to the country's economic growth."

Jordan Plans to Invest $750 Million for Development of QAIA

Queen Alia International Airport

Jordan's leading Airport International Group envisages to invest $750 million in redevelopment of Queen Alia International Airport, (QAIA), in the capital, which will enhance its capacity to 21 million passengers.

Mr. Curtis Grad, Chief executive officer of Airport International Group stated in a communiqué that stage I of this terminal is likely to be prepared by early 2012. It will be able to manage 9 million passengers. The stage II will have the capacity to handle additional 12 million passengers.

Jordan Nuclear inks pact with Canadian Nuclear Safety

Jordan Nuclear Regulatory Commission has decided to sign an agreement with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission in the field of nuclear administrative procedures.

Under the deal, both partners will exchange information and expertise in the fields of nuclear energy administration and nuclear safety.

In addition, the agreement also aims to boost Jordanian cadres' capabilities in monitoring and controlling the peaceful use of nuclear energy as well protecting the environment from radiation sources.

Jordan inks $12 million pact with Tractebel

Tractebel Engineering

Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) has entered into a $12 million agreement with Belgium-based Tractebel Engineering as part of the Kingdom's plan to build its first nuclear plant and reduce reliance on oil imports.

Under the deal, Tractebel will first carry out a two-year survey to determine whether the planned location, about 25 kilometers south of the Red Sea port of Aqaba, is suitable for 'the environment'.

JAEC plans to complete the first 1,000-megawatt reactor in five to six years and may construct a second depending on costs.
