Landmark Advisory leasing guide: Plunge in Dubai rent continues

July saw the continuation of the ongoing plunge in residential property rents in Dubai, the blame of which goes to weaker demand and increased supply; however, improvement was noticed in some areas.

It has been found by the latest leasing guide from real estate consultants Landmark Advisory that areas where tenants are upgrading to bigger properties are the ones where rental rates are rising.

Delay comes in the launch of UAE Satellite

Due to the safety concerns, officials confirmed that the launch of the UAE's first satellite has been postponed by four days. It was today that DubaiSat-1 was scheduled to be launched onboard a Dnepr rocket; however, the launch will now take place on Wednesday at 10.46 pm.

Ahmed Al Mansoori, Director-General of the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) said that postponing of launching of satellites are not unusual.

Spyware from UAE BlackBerrys scrubbed by RIM

Recently, BlackBerry users in the UAE complained that an update of a firmware has resulted in decreased battery life and system crashes.

A fix for the contentious firmware update by a United Arab Emirates carrier - which significantly enabled the cellular service provider to spy on its BlackBerry users - has been issued by the BlackBerry maker, Research In Motion (RIM).

Safety programme for UAE's most dangerous road unveiled

An AED40m ($10.8m) safety programme for the UAE's most dangerous road has been launched by Abu Dhabi authorities.

The Department of Transport (DoT) says that 14% of all road accidents in Abu Dhabi last year took place on this 327km Al Mafraq - Al Ghowaifat highway, which joins the UAE to Saudi Arabia.

It has been learnt that the basic aim of the safety scheme, which runs in conjunction with Abu Dhabi Police, is to enhance traffic safety on the road to bring it in line with international standards.

Dubai property sales drop 42.6%

According to REIDIN. com 1,724 properties in Dubai were sold in H1 2009, down 42.6% as compared to the previous year.

The sales of the property, further, are not expected to be encouraging and are going to be yet another difficult quarter for the property developers.
